Growing a garden that supports our precious pollinators is endlessly rewarding

I adore perennials. In fact, the vast majority of the planting in our London garden is formed of them. These plants can lack the woody structure of shrubs and trees, and come in an incredible array of colours, forms and foliage. Herbaceous perennials will retreat fully to ground-level during the coldest times of the year before bursting back into life the following Spring. Other evergreen varieties will remain above ground regardless of temperature, providing valuable interest during the winter months.

Perennials make for excellent propagation, through cuttings, clump-division or collection and seed-sowing. Plant them in their favoured position, and they’ll be a beautiful and reliable addition to your space for years to come.

The focus of this post will be those plants that help to support the vast array of pollinators to be found at all times of the year, and that will grow and thrive for years to come — making excellent investments for you, the gardener, too. The great thing about supporting our pollinators, is that everybody benefits.
